Ingredients

For the Baklava Dates

  • 1 cup dates pitted
  • 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
  • 1/2 cup pistachios chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 package phyllo dough about 16 oz
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Step 2: In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, pistachios, and cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.
  • Step 3: Take the pitted dates and stuff each date with the nut mixture. Set aside.
  • Step 4: On a clean surface, unroll the phyllo dough and cover with a damp cloth to prevent drying.
  • Step 5: Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a baking sheet and brush lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering 5 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
  • Step 6: Place the stuffed dates in a single row along one edge of the layered phyllo dough.
  • Step 7: Roll the phyllo dough around the dates to create a log shape. Brush the outside with melted butter.
  • Step 8: Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets and dates.
  • Step 9: Once all the logs are prepared, cut them into bite-sized pieces and place them back on the baking sheet.
  • Step 10: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Step 11: While the baklava dates are baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Step 12: Remove the baklava dates from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over them.
  • Step 13: Allow to cool completely before serving. Enjoy your Baklava Dates!
