Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar A hint of sweetness to complement the apples.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Helps the dough rise beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavors in your dough.
  • 1 cup milk warm, activates the yeast and contributes to the dough's softness.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted, adds richness to the dough.
  • 1 large egg Binds the ingredients together for a smooth dough.

For the Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened, the creamy heart of the buns.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar sweetens the cream cheese filling.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract adds a lovely flavor depth.
  • 2 cups apples peeled and diced, fresh and sweet, these will be the star of the filling.
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce a delicious drizzle for that sweet touch.

For Topping

  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts optional, for a delightful crunch.
  • Additional caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Step 2: Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Step 3: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Step 4: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in the diced apples and half of the caramel sauce. Set aside.
  • Step 5: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle (about 1/2 inch thick). Spread the cream cheese and apple filling evenly over the dough.
  • Step 6: Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Place the buns in a greased baking dish. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with nuts if desired.
  • Step 7: Cover the buns with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Step 8: Allow the buns to cool slightly before drizzling with additional caramel sauce. Enjoy warm!

Notes

To keep your buns fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them. Just wrap them tightly and they’ll keep for about a month.
