Originating in Germany, Affens have been bred for the purpose of eliminating rats and mice but have slowly gained a spot in the heart of dog enthusiasts all around the world. Despite their small bodies that stand 11 inches tall and weigh around 8 pounds, they’re respected amongst their peers as well as humans. Their serious-looking features and robustness have gained them a few nicknames over the years, one of which is “monkey dogs”.
Unlike other small dogs, Affenpinschers aren’t fragile. As a matter of fact, they’re quite sturdy; making them a nice addition to any household as they make for great watchdogs and gameplay partners.
