A Belgian Malinois is confident, smart, and devoted to his owner; this makes him an amazing companion to have inside your home. Not only that, but he’s also very hardworking and energetic; Which means more playtime and more fun to share with your beloved pet. Black Belgian Malinois tends to be all the rage right now due to their ever-increasing fame and appreciation both online and in real-life.

They originated in the US
Black Belgian Malinois dogs have been originally bred in the US, not for their looks but their utility. They’ve been extremely useful for protection purposes. Yet, no records of their breeding have ever been kept. Nowadays, this breed has developed to be a great pet that is both a protector and an enforcer making it one of the most well-known and loved dog breeds of all time.
They can skydive
Due to the heftiness of German Shepherds, they’re excluded from many military operations including skydiving. And this is when Black Belgian Malinois come in, as they’re much lighter and smoother to work with as parachutists attempt to do tandem jumps with them. They’re also capable of skydiving on their own which isn’t difficult to do if they were properly trained.
They were bred to be herding dogs
Black Belgian Malinois were originally bred for the sole purpose of utilizing them in herding(along with other Belgian Sheepdogs). They’re known to be intelligent and hardworking which is exactly what you would need in a herding dog. But they have developed over the last century and have ventured into so many other fields due to their sleekness and versatility.
They’re excellent police dogs
Having been introduced to police departments in the US in the early 1900s, Black Belgian Malinois weren’t considered service dogs, let alone police dogs. But as they were put under special training to unlock their full capacities, they have slowly carved their path into being one of the top dog breeds used by police departments. Moreover, they have served in the military as messengers and assistants to the Red Cross.
They’re short-coated
There exist four Belgian Shepherd variations in Belgium with slight variations to differentiate between them. Black Belgian Malinois are the ones with a short coat amongst the other three. Two Belgian Malinois mating could result in the birth of another breed characterized by a relatively longer coat, The Tervuren. This is essentially how breeding works; mixing and matching between multiple breeds in the hopes to further develop certain breeds to attain a more performing version of themselves.
This breed caught Osama Binladen
Black Belgian Malinois are famous for being high functioning and extremely hardworking, which is how they’ve gained their title as one of the most excellent police dogs. Not only that, but their outstanding chasing and hunting abilities have helped to track down and capture Osama Binladen himself. This has added to their overall fame and adoration by the public eye. But, unfortunately, this dog breed isn’t the most suitable to keep confined inside a household, which is why they’re not the most optimal dog breed to have as a pet.
They can do anything
As we’ve mentioned earlier, The Black Belgian Malinois excels in any type of work and under any type of circumstances. Policework, military, search and rescue, you name it and this breed has probably done it. They even make amazing service dogs for disabled people. Their physique, confidence, and agility make them great in so many dog sports as well. Some of the sports that Black Belgian Malinois have completely nailed down are Rally, dock diving, French ring, and even lure coursing.
They’re a healthy dog breed
Needless to say, any dog breed that has been used in work environments has to be both physically and mentally fit in order to do excel at its job. Black Belgian Malinois are no different; they have to undergo several veterinary tests and diagnostics all throughout their life in order to maintain their health and shape, especially that they’re also utilized in police and military work. This is why The Black Belgian Malinois is one of the healthiest dog breeds to ever exist.
They have different bloodlines
It’s common knowledge that every dog breed has a background of different bloodlines. This means that they’re a mixture of different traits from different countries that have been mated for different purposes. Black Belgian Malinois have a bloodline of generations that were bred to fit work criteria in order to increase efficiency and productivity. This creates a difference in terms of physical appearance and temperament in dogs, which is why it’s important to educate yourself before you pick and choose the right fit for you.
